Getting startedSet up your business

Set up your business

Setting up Groomr takes a few minutes. You create an account, then answer a short set of screens about your business. Most screens open with an answer already filled in, so often all you do is check it and select Continue.

A salon, or a business with both a salon and a van, answers four screens. A mobile grooming business answers five.

Ask Groomr

Groomr can’t set up your business from chat. Until the setup screens are finished, Groomr sends you back to them, and it won’t book appointments or create campaigns.

Once you’re set up, you can change much of what you entered by asking Groomr, for example:

“Add a nail trim for $20, 15 minutes”

See Your service menu and Hours and time off for what Groomr can change from chat.

Create your account

Groomr is in closed beta, so creating a business needs an invite.

  1. Join the waitlist at app.groomr.ai/waitlist . Under Reserve your spot, enter your email, your business name and what kind of groomer you are.
  2. When your spot comes up, Groomr emails you an invite. Select Create your account in the email.
  3. On Create an account, fill in Name, Email and Password. Use the same email address the invite was sent to.
  4. Select Create Account.

Groomr signs you in and opens the setup screens.

If you sign up without the link from your invite, Groomr can’t create your business. An invite works for one email address, once. If you see “This invite code is registered to a different email address” or “This invite code has already been used”, sign up from the invite email with the address it was sent to.

Joining someone else’s team works differently: their invite is all you need. See Joining a team.

The setup screens

Select Continue to move on and Back to return to the previous screen. The dots at the top show which screen you’re on.

1. What kind of grooming business?

Choose one:

  • Salon: clients come to your salon.
  • Mobile: you travel to your clients.
  • Both: a salon and a van on the road.

Then, under Who works with you?, choose Just me or Me and staff.

This screen has no answer filled in, because only you know it. Your choice decides which screens and checklist items you see. If you choose Both, Groomr sets up your salon first and adds your van and mobile services to your checklist, so you don’t have to set up two menus now. If you choose Me and staff, Invite your team appears on your checklist.

To change your business type later, see Business profile (How you work).

2. Tell us about your business

  • Business name is the only thing you have to type.
  • Business address (a salon or both) is where clients come to you, shown on your booking page. For a mobile business the field reads Home base address: where your day starts, used as your van’s home base. Pick your address from the suggestions so Groomr can put you on the map.
  • Timezone is filled in from your browser. Select Change if it’s wrong.

When you select Continue, Groomr saves your business, your address and your timezone. For a salon, or a business with both, it also creates your salon location from the address.

To change any of this later, see Business profile.

3. What do you offer?

Your menu arrives filled in with four common services: Full Grooming, Bath + Tidy Trim, Bath and Deshedding Treatment. Puppy First Groom waits under Also common in case you offer it.

  1. Choose how you price at the top: By size, By time or Flat rate. This applies to every service on the menu.
  2. Rename any service to what you call it. Select a name to edit it.
  3. Change the price. You type one price per service:
    • By size: one starting price. Groomr scales the other sizes from it, so check them afterwards in Your service menu.
    • By time: the price for a 60-minute groom. Groomr scales the other lengths from it.
    • Flat rate: one price for every dog.
  4. Remove anything you don’t do with the X. Removed services move to Also common, so you can add them back.
  5. Select Add your own for a service that isn’t listed.

You need at least one service, and every service needs a name and a price. You type prices in whole dollars, and Groomr saves every price rounded to the nearest $5.

When you select Continue, Groomr saves your menu and its prices.

To change your menu later, see Your service menu.

4. When are you open?

Your week arrives filled in as Tuesday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday, 9 AM to 4 PM. Sunday and Monday are closed.

  • Select a day to open or close it.
  • Change the start and end times for any open day.
  • If you have no fixed week, choose By appointment only instead.

These are your business’s hours. Team members can set their own hours later, and theirs override the business’s.

When you select Continue, Groomr saves your hours. For a salon, or a business with both, this is the last screen.

To change your hours later, see Hours and time off.

5. How far do you travel? (mobile only)

This screen appears only if you chose Mobile.

  • Drag the slider to set how far you’ll drive from your home base. It starts at 15 miles, and you can pick from 5 to 100 miles. The map and the drive time estimate update as you drag.
  • If you chose Me and staff, set How many vans? (1 to 9). Every van starts with the same service area.

When you select Continue, Groomr creates your van (named after your business, for example “Pawsome Van”) and gives it this service area. If Groomr couldn’t place your address on the map, it creates the van without a service area. You can add one later.

To change your van or its service area later, see Business profile (Vehicles).

When you finish

After the last screen, Groomr opens and you’re ready to book. Anything left to do, such as importing clients or connecting payments, is on your checklist. See Finish setting up.

Good to know

You can stop and come back

Your answers save as you go. Screens 1 and 2 save together when you select Continue on screen 2. If you close the tab after that, signing in again brings you back to What do you offer?. If you leave before finishing screen 2, you start again from screen 1.

You can’t skip a screen

Every screen needs an answer before Groomr can take a booking: a business type, a name, at least one service and your hours. If you try to use Groomr before you finish, it sends you back to the setup screens. You can still open Settings in the meantime.

Starting prices

The starting prices come from Groomr’s standard menu. If Groomr already has your business address when What do you offer? opens, such as when you come back to finish setup, it adjusts the starting prices for prices in your state and, for some large metro areas, your ZIP code. That adjustment happens once. After you save your menu, the prices are yours, and Groomr doesn’t adjust them again.
