A tour of Groomr
Groomr opens on your conversation with Groomr, your assistant. Everything else sits in the rail on the left, or opens in a panel beside the conversation. This page walks through each part once, so you know where to look.
If you haven’t yet, read How Groomr works first. It explains why the conversation comes first.
The rail
The rail is the column down the left side. From top to bottom:
-
Your business. Its name and initials, with your primary location underneath. Click it to see your Locations, or Add location.
-
Search (⌘K). Find clients, pets, coworkers, appointments and breeds from anywhere.
-
The tile row. Four buttons, each with its name in a tooltip:
Tile What it does Inbox Opens the Inbox: what needs you New appointment (⌘J) Starts a booking from wherever you are Checkout (⌘U) Opens checkout to ring up a visit More Opens the Directory and the other destinations -
Groomr. The card marked “Your business’s assistant · Home”. This is your conversation with Groomr, and it is home. Click it to get back from anywhere.
-
Conversations. Everyone else you talk to, in two groups: Coworkers, for messages with teammates, and Clients, for texts and emails with clients. A group only shows once it has a conversation in it.
-
Your account, at the bottom. Your name and email. Click it for the account menu.
On Windows, use Ctrl in place of ⌘ for every shortcut on this page.
Start a conversation with teammates. Click + beside Conversations, choose one or more teammates, and start. A group is a conversation with more than one teammate in it.
Older conversations fold away. Client conversations with no messages in 3 days, and coworker conversations with none in 30 days, move under a fold at the bottom of the list. Anything still waiting on you stays in view.
The Inbox tile only appears if your role lets you view the Inbox.
More
The More tile opens a grid of the places you can click through to:
| Destination | What’s there |
|---|---|
| Directory | Every client, pet and teammate. See The Directory |
| Schedule | Your appointments. Opens in a panel beside the conversation |
| Map | Your route and stops, for mobile grooming. It opens only if your business runs mobile appointments |
| Marketing | Ads, posts and your content calendar. See Marketing and Ad Studio |
| Bookkeeping | Expenses, invoices, mileage and reports. See Bookkeeping |
| Insights | How your business is doing |
Point of Sale and Inventory appear in the grid only when your business has that add-on. Both are add-ons listed under Settings → Add-ons.
You don’t need More to get anywhere. Everything behind it can also be reached by asking Groomr.
Panels
Profiles open in a panel beside your conversation, so you can check something and carry on talking. That includes:
- client and pet profiles
- appointments, and the Schedule
- the Directory
- breeds and coats from Groomr’s grooming reference
- invoices, receipts, expenses and marketing posts
To close a panel, click × (Close panel) at its top right. If you opened something from inside a panel, such as a pet from its owner’s profile, the top left shows a back arrow (Back) to return to what was underneath. Your browser’s back button does the same.
To make a panel wider or narrower, drag its inner edge.
Ask Groomr
“Find the Johnsons”
Groomr lists the matching clients. Ask “open her profile” and it opens in the panel. See Client profiles and Pet profiles and the Groom Sheet.
The account menu
Click your name at the bottom of the rail. The menu shows:
- how much of this month’s allowances your business has used, such as grooms and AI messages, and when they reset
- what your business is spending this month, if your role can see billing
- Account settings: your own profile, notifications, security, and data and privacy
- Toggle dark mode (or Toggle light mode)
- App settings: Settings for the whole business
- Sign out
A number beside your name, and beside App settings, counts the setup steps your business has left.
Settings
Open the account menu and choose App settings. Settings lists its pages in groups down the left:
| Group | What’s in it |
|---|---|
| Business | Your business profile, team, clients and pets, docs and forms, schedule and hours, and brand. See Your business |
| Commerce | Services and pricing, promotions, cuts, cancellation policy, tax and payments. See Services and pricing |
| Groomr AI | How Groomr works for you: Receptionist, Marketing and Bookkeeping settings, Memory and Proactivity |
| Billing | Your Groomr plan and usage |
| Add-ons | Extras you can add to Groomr, and the ones you’ve installed |
You only see the pages your role allows. For example, Billing appears only for people who can view billing. If setup isn’t finished, Finish setup sits at the top with the number of steps left.
Click Back at the top of the list to return to where you were.
Ask Groomr
“Make a nail trim $20”
“We’re closed on the 24th”
Many settings can be changed by asking. See What Groomr can do for you.
The collapsed rail
To give your conversation more room, click the collapse button beside your business name, or press ⌘B. The rail shrinks to a strip of icons and avatars:
- Groomr stays at the top, as its avatar.
- Every conversation shows as an avatar, with a dot when something is unread.
- More opens its grid out to the side.
- Your locations aren’t reachable while the rail is collapsed.
To open it again, click your business’s initials at the top, or press ⌘B.
You can also drag the rail’s inner edge to make it wider or narrower. Groomr remembers the width you choose.
Your first conversation
Click Groomr at the top of the rail and try these.
See your day.
“Who’s coming in today?”
Groomr shows the whole day: what’s done and what’s left.
Add a client.
“Add a new client: Jane Doe, (859) 555-1234, Rex, Poodle, 14 lbs”
Groomr creates the client and their pet. Open the card it shows you to check the profile.
Ask about a breed.
“What trims suit a goldendoodle?”
Groomr answers from its own grooming reference.
When you’re ready for more, ask Groomr “what can you do?” It answers for your business and your role. For the full list, see What Groomr can do for you.
Good to know
- What you see follows your role. Tiles, destinations and Settings pages your role can’t use are hidden, not grayed out. See Team and roles.
- New appointment works from anywhere. Press ⌘J on any page to start a booking.
- Hard-to-undo actions wait for you. See Approvals.
